Eastridge Church - Clackamas River Basin Council Work Party

J Creek Community Planting Party

Date: Saturday, June 22 2024
Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Location: Private restoration site, address and parking details will be sent to participants ahead of the event – located off Clackamas River Drive.

Come help restore natural areas along Johnson Creek (a tributary of the Clackamas) at a private restoration site with the Clackamas River Basin Council! Join us for morning of environmental stewardship as we take cuttings of willows and dogwood and plant them along the creek and river. By lending a hand, you are helping improve stream water quality, restore wildlife habitat, and contribute to healthier urban waterways.  Your involvement makes a real difference!

Why are we doing this project?

Construction on the “J” Creek Side Channel Reconnection Project completed in August 2023. This reconnected side channel increases and improves habitat for threatened and endangered native fish species in the Clackamas basin. The project, which which took place downriver from Carver Park off Clackamas River Drive, involved digging out a historic side channel off the Clackamas River, installing large wood, and restoring a degraded riparian area.

By further repairing the riparian zone (the vegetated area along a stream), we can slow the water entering the stream and filter pollutants to improve stream conditions.
