Work Parties & Events

CRBC is waiting until ideal planting weather returns to start up our First Saturday Work Parties, but we'll have a planting and mulching event this summer. Click the dates below for more information about locations, and contact Becki Walker to RSVP.

Many of our planting events are funded by a collaboration with Water Environment Services, OWEB, and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

Upcoming work parties:

July 24th
with CrossFit and the North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District

Curious about what goes on at a work party? Check out this FAQ written by CRBC intern Andrew Herrera.

Riparian Enhancement

Find out about our free Streamside Stewards Program and how you can get native trees and shrubs planted on your property. Planting this vegetation enhances water quality, fish and wildlife habitat, and the beauty of your landscape. For more information on our free trees program, click here. Current Issues

Prescription drug take-backs

Did you know that flushing your expired or unused prescription drugs down the toilet or sink may be harmful to water quality and the health of humans and other animals? Think about it: every time you take a drink of water, you may be consuming someone else's prescriptions. The effects are especially harmful to aquatic-dwelling organisms, which may absorb the drugs through their skin. The New York Times has an article about the impacts of this pollution here. You can get rid of any excess prescription drugs you may have at one of these events.

Newsletter/E-bulletin

CRBC has recently released our latest newsletter for Spring 2010! You can subscribe to our newsletter by emailing Becki, the Education and Outreach Coordinator. You can view other past issues of our newsletter here. The newsletter is distributed twice annually, in May and November.

Free Pesticide Consultations!

A multi-year study recently released by the US Geological Survey detected the presence of numerous pesticides within the Clackamas River basin. Even though pesticides are far below human health benchmarks, their presence is a warning sign. If you'd like to reduce your use, contact us! We're more than happy to offer free on-site consultations! For more information about how you can reduce your pesticide use please click here. CRBC has also developed a label-reading fact sheet that can be accessed here.

Please include your feedback on our Pesticide and Herbicide Use survey.

Council Members

Did you know that CRBC's own Cole Gardiner is one of Field & Stream Magazine's Heroes of Conservation? You can read the article about him here.

CRBC held our Annual Meeting on February 21st at the Sabin-Schellenberg Center in Milwaukie. At this meeting, Kevin Goodson of the Oregon Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, and Sue Knapp from the Governor's Natural Resource Office presented information about the newly-finished Lower Columbia River Conservation and Recovery Plan. We also honored Gary Guttridge with the Stevens River Watch Award, Gilbert Shibley with the Cole Gardiner Stewardship award, Dick Jones with the Outstanding Support award, and Cole Gardiner with the Thalweg Award. The Clackamas County Soil and Water Conservation District also received a Certificate of Recognition for its constancy as a conservation partner. Look for an article in our upcoming newsletter with more information about the Annual Meeting!
